Financial advice compliance more flexible than you think

Compliant financial advice means more than just adhering to a bunch of legal wording. Under the new advice regime there are rules to be followed, but these are more principle based than prescriptive. Making sure the principles are applied to individual clients’ specific needs is the key to determining whether advice is likely to be considered compliant.

Our new guidance note What does compliant financial advice really look like? shows you how to achieve compliance that is good for the business, good for the client and good for the regulator.

The guidance note:

  • defines financial advice;
  • shows how tech solutions can’t do it all and where human intervention is needed when assessing compliance;
  • highlights the importance of the six-step advice process in meeting compliance requirements; and
  • provides a checklist of what we look for when reviewing client files for compliance.
